Live Your Life Backwards

Are you an artist or a creative? Start living life backwards: what do you want to be remembered for? How will your obituary read? Today, you should do something you want to be remembered by. Make it a habit. If you want people to remember you as an entrepreneur, producer, musician, filmmaker or author , take the initiative today to pursue goals and make your dreams a reality.

I don’t mean this in a negative way, I just think that living life backwards is the only way to live today. Thinking of death makes you realize what it takes to make your creative projects a reality, and that you have to take action.

How to Live Your Life Backwards is the only way to live if you are an artist or entrepreneur, or anyone who works in a creative space. It will give you the freedom and peace of mind to do great work, know that you are making progress and always stay motivated.

If we take Elon Musk for an example, he had a clear vision of the future when he was in his early teens. He had a goal in mind, which led him to leave university, drop out of college and make billion dollar companies. The bottom line: it doesn’t matter what you do today as long as you are moving in the right direction towards your life goals and staying consistent.

To live life backward — or in reverse, really — you have to think about death first. What do you want to be remembered for? For example, if you want to be remembered as a musician, producer, filmmaker, author, artist, or entrepreneur (and who doesn’t?), then you have to take the initiative and pursue your goals today. Don’t wait around for tomorrow — today is the day that you can make your dreams a reality. Wake up and chase your dreams.

If you’re an artist or a creative, you already know that life moves fast. You have to be able to think on your feet and adjust one hundred times per day. And the only way to do this is to live life backwards.

If you want people to remember you as a musician, filmmaker, author, or entrepreneur, it’s time to start taking action. It’s time for you to make your dreams come true.

The best way to get started is by thinking of death at the beginning of each day. What do you want people to say about you when you die? Do you want them to say that you were an incredible producer, but were too afraid to share your music with the world? Do you want them to say that you wrote something amazing — a book or a screenplay — but never sent it out into the world? Or would you rather they say that no matter what happened — you made work and did what you loved every single day?

Take a moment today and ask yourself: What do I want people to remember me for?

Then think forward from there: What are my goals? How can I achieve them? Who can I talk to? What resources do I need?

Remembering death at the start of each day will help. Think of every day as your last. Eat your favorite meal, call your best friend, play with your dog, travel to your favorite destination in the world, get sunlight, write the book, write the screenplay, shoot the movie, record the soundtrack and show it off to the world. We have access to the most creative tools at any point in human history today. Don’t be a dinosaur. Use your tools or lose it. Every thing around you was created by people no smarter than you. If you remember that Steve Jobs line you will be able to do anything in the world.

As artists we get caught up in the minutia of our daily tasks. We get sucked into the rat race and our creative talents are left dormant. We forget that everyday is a gift. We forget to use our creative skills to its fullest expression. We stop living creatively. We need to start living life backwards and make regrets decisions at the end of the day rather than at the beginning of every morning. It’s all good to have goals, but if your life hasn’t been driven by passion how will you truly achieve your goals? How will you jump off the cliff without looking down or thinking twice?

As an artist, you should try to live life backwards. Start with the end in mind and visualize what it is that you want the world to remember you by. Identify your ultimate goal and set course with a direction of momentum towards greatness. Don’t be distracted by short-term pleasures that are meaningless in the end: rather, make your art a part of your every day so that you can enjoy every second of life. Make mistakes and correct them as early as possible so that they don’t come back to plague you later. And don’t let your creative genius die with you; instead, make sure that people will appreciate your work for generations to come. Live life backwards, and the best is yet to come.

After reading this, if you find that your life is generally boring, then perhaps you should start thinking of how to live life backwards in the way that it is described. This can be accomplished by constantly thinking and searching how different activities will make a difference when you are no longer around. If you do this, then every day will be so busy with all activities making a difference which in turn leads to a happy life.

I am an artist at heart. I view every day as a canvas and I give as much effort as possible to every day of my life because in our limited time on earth there is so much we can do, so much we can learn, so much we can be.
