Before you Write 5 Articles a day, Consider how much your Day is Worth.

I love Medium. It is a complex, diverse platform loaded with my favorite kinds of people on the planet: writers. I joined in early 2018 and have been in the Medium Partner Program since that May and I don’t intend to leave.

I came here to be part of the bustling not-quite-underground fiction community that has continued to grow and thrive, but is still relegated to the dreaded “More” tab just off to the right of all the topics Medium thinks we should want to read.

It seems that if you want to make a decent amount on this site you have to write non-fiction. I started doing just that in April, sharing my experiences with anxiety and relationships and I have a lot more to say on these topics. But I will never give up fiction and poetry.

I have read many personal accounts of success on Medium and have taken tips from top-writers who are making the moolah. Aside from topics, tags, and the quality of writing, there seems to be one very common thread:

Most of the successful writers I have met are writing three to seven articles a day.

Hats off to them because I couldn’t possibly manage to create that much shitty content, let alone the quality content that many of them are churning out. But I have to wonder, at what cost?

I have a day job in a profession that I love. It never promised to pay a lot, but I work for a great organization and I make roughly $19 an hour…
