Two recent goals

Currently I am preparing for two exams at the same time, one is lsat, and the other one is Chinese Bar Exam. Sounds intimitating! But the good side is I have some foundations for both of the tests respectively. However, it still requires a lot of input from me.

I have been kind of lazy for these two exams. Not until recently I figure out a way to keep myself motivated. For Chinese Bar Exam, the preparation looks quite ‘mechanical’ to some extent. Watch lectures, take down notes and take exercises later on. I read some posts online, most of which I don’t find particularly useful. Chinese students generally are good at standard exams but they tend to put too much emphasis on exams and excessively interested in testprep skills. As for me, the bar exam is kind of boring, that’s why I fail to devote myself to preparing for it. However, recently I change my mind: even though it’s very tedious, it is the thing that I must do if I want to pursue a career in law. For things like this, I have not choice but try my best. Moreover, I should finish this test as soon as possible. So I can have more time to spare on things that I found more interesting and meaningful.

I have learned a lot, espcially logical reasoning and arguments, during my preparation on lsat. Critically thinking is a part neglected in China’s basic education. (No idea whehther it is by intentionally or not.) In addition, I have also improved a lot on reading. I developed some bad reading habits which were formed or influenced by high school English exams. In my opinion, lsat is more about mindset change, you have to adjust the right kind of mindset to ‘resonate’ with lsac. There are two practical reasons to motivate myself for doing better. One of them is a higher chance to get into a good law school.

Good news is that I felt I have made some visible progress in reading comprehension section after adjusting to new method.

One lesson from today: always maintain a positive relationship with people you are concerned with or those who are likely to influence your life. The reason for this is to create a good environment for your intervening or persuading them when it comes to something serious or important to you all. If the atomsphere among you are cold or even hostile, it would be very hard to convince them since human beings tend to be irrational. But the problem lying ahead for me is how to repair the relationship to back to ‘normal’. Difficult task. More communication actually provides more possibility of influencing.

As for myself, I need to work harder.
