How Facebook is going local and what that means for the media

If Facebook has a metaphor of what it now wants News Feed to be, that metaphor appears to be a local newspaper. When announcing sweeping changes to the feed, Mark Zuckerberg put a lot of emphasis on…

Frank Charles Laubach and Effie Seely Laubach

If you have been following the blog you will remember a marriage announcement I posted about this couple. You can read that here :

Since posting that article, I have been curious to do some more research on those names and people in the book. This was one of the most elaborate marriage announcements I have read, and was really blown away by the “ bridal tour” and wanted to see what became of them. Did they grow old ? Did they have children ? What does the grave look like ? where is it located ? Just some of the questions I ask myself while typing out a simple article.

I tried to reach out to a family member on the grave finder page, but his email has no longer exists. Here is what I have found so far.

“Frank was born September 2, 1884 in Benton, Pennsylvania and lived to be 85 years old. He died June 11, 1970 in Syracuse, New York and is buried in Benton, PA” He went on to acheive some really great things in his lifetime His memorial on Find a grave says that he was a “Religious leader.Religious Leader. A Congregational missionary and educator, beginning in 1929 he developed literacy primers for more then 300 languages and dialects in more than 100 countries. In 1955 he founded the non-profit organization, Laubach Literacy Inc. He created the slogan “Each One Teach One.”

Effie or Effa Seely Laubach was “ born 1882 in Benton, PA and died in 1973 at age 90–91. She is also buried in Benton, PA”

They had three children:

“Autumn Laubach born November 6, 1914 — death March 31, 1914 aged 4 months old”

“Henry Laubach born March 29, 1915 — death January 1, 1918 aged 2 years old” A newspaper article listed on the find a grave page shows that the little boy died of pneumonia.

“Dr. Robert Seely “Dr. Bob” Laubach born October 25, 1918 -death September 11, 2015 aged 96 years old” Who also, like his father, did some extrodianary things.
