Ride it my pony

In this guide, I’m going to run through the basics in order to get started in this hugely enjoyable Play to Earn (P2E) game.

What is it?
In its most simplistic form, Pegaxy is a P2E game where you racehorses called Pegas, which are mechanical futuristic horses. Within this metaverse, you can buy and sell horses (Pegas) via the marketplace, racehorses in the virtual game to earn tokens, breed horses, and/or rent out horses you own.

Pegaxy gives you multiple entry points into the game to earn tokens and/or buy and sell Pegas.

My first Pega

The tokens
The main governing tokens are called Pegaxy (PGX) and Vigorus (VIS). These are the two tokens to be aware of in the game, it’s also important to note that Pegaxy is on the Polygon network, so you will need MATIC as well as USDT to buy Pegas.

You rent and sell horses for PGX, but the main token you earn when ‘racing’ is called VIS. Both tokens have seen a dip in the last month, alongside many other P2E tokens, but you can see the potential they have based on previous price highs.

How to play

There are three ways to play Pegaxy, offering people with all levels of investment an entry point (or a try before you buy/commit model):

Buy your own Pega: In the most simplistic form, you can buy your own Pega via the Pegaxy marketplace, where you can race it daily to earn VIS

A Pegaxy race (there is also a 3D version)

Rent a horse: Here you can rent other people’s owned horses for 40 PGX per day, this is a great option to earn VIS if you can’t afford/don’t want to buy a Pega yet.

Share profit: This is where you ‘rent’ a Pega for free (minimal gas fees apply), and race the Pegas on a profit share model (typically 5% — 20%). So, if your rented Pega wins you keep x% of the VIS and the rest goes to its owner.

A few final things to note on the race. Each horse has stats, at the moment these don’t affect the race, but it’s likely they will soon. Each horse has a max of 25 ‘energy’, each race takes up 1 energy, so you can race up to 25 times per day (energy is recovered at a rate of 1 per hour).

The Pegas

Okay, I won’t lie this is where it gets a little confusing so bear with me. When it comes to buying (or renting Pegas) at the moment the races seem to be based on a random number generator model (so any horse can win, regardless of rarity/stats), BUT this is looking to change imminently.

The Pegas price is based on four things, Bloodline Rarity, Win Rate %, and
Breed Count

There are four Bloodlines, and the Pegas differ in appearance based on wing design. Hoz (rarest), Kiln (uncommon), Compana (less rare), and Zan (common)

There are five different rarities. The rarest is Founding (5,000), these were created and not bred. The rest (legendary, epic, rare, pacer) are all created by players through breeding.

Bloodlines, rarity, and stats, don’t matter when it comes to racing the only thing that matters (at the time of writing) is the Win Rate %, you can check this stat before buying/renting (assuming it’s raced before). Most horses have a Win Rate between 20% — 25%, so expect to win 5 out of 25 races per day. A floor price Pega should do just as well as a rare one.

Some maths: On average, you’d expect 58 VIS per win (you get VIS for finishing in the top three per race), so 290 VIS per day per horse. Based on the current VIS price that’s around $1.5 per day or $50 per month. So you could look to pay off a floor price Pega within two months. If you have a ‘stable’ of multiple Pegas you can start to see the potential for passive income accumulating very quickly, especially when you add Breeding into the mix.

Breeding

Okay, the final bit of (slight) complexity. You can also breed your Pegas! Pegas are Male or Female, and you can breed them (up to 7 times). Each time you breed it will cost you more VIS.

If you do want to breed it’s best to buy ‘Virgin’ Pegas (those that haven't been bred yet) as this will save you VIS and you can sell your new Pegas to recover costs.

So there you go, a beginner's guide to starting you playing Pegaxy, there is a lot more to go into, but this should get you started at least!
